About Me

Lora Foxwell, AMFT

For nearly a decade, I have had the privilege of working alongside women and families as they navigate trauma, difficult life transitions, and circumstances that can make already-hard seasons even harder. My perspective has also been shaped by living internationally in Japan for ten years, an experience that deepened my appreciation for the many ways people understand family, identity, community, and belonging. Of all the roles I have held, though, being a mother is my greatest joy, and one of the experiences that most deeply informs the way I understand the complexity, tenderness, and demands of caring for ourselves and the people we love.

Much of my work with women has centered around a question I find myself returning to often: What happens when you have spent so much of your life caring for everyone else that you are no longer quite sure what you need? I especially enjoy working with women who are navigating relationships, boundaries, parenting, trauma, anxiety, depression, significant life transitions, or questions about faith and beliefs that have shaped their lives.

My approach is grounded in the belief that people make sense in the context of their stories, and that people carry immense resilience. Our relationships, experiences, nervous systems, and environments all shape the ways we move through the world. The ways we think, feel, respond, and relate to others often developed for good reasons. Sometimes those patterns protected us or helped us survive. Therapy can offer a space to approach those patterns with curiosity and compassion, build on the strengths already present, and create room for new possibilities.

My style is calm, thoughtful, and genuine, with room for humor at unexpected times. I tend to notice the details—the patterns in what you say, the things you leave unsaid, and the ways your past may still be showing up in your relationships today. As an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), I hold an associate-level license through the state of Tennessee and practice under the supervision of a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My work with women and families draws from a combination of evidence-based treatments and a trauma-responsive, relational, and body-aware perspective.

I don't believe every problem needs to be solved immediately. Sometimes the most important work is having the chance to say something out loud, look at it from a different angle, and discover that there is more to the story than you first thought. If you are looking for therapy that is thoughtful, genuine, and grounded in who you are and not just in what is wrong, I would be honored to talk with you.

About Sage Room

There is a space at the office building where I have worked the last many years that everyone simply calls the sage room because of its sage colored walls. It was in that room, in conversations with families, colleagues, and community partners, that I had the privilege of supporting families as they navigated housing instability, financial hardship, trauma, parenting, and life's many unexpected challenges. I have witnessed remarkable resilience in the women and families with whom I have worked. I have also come to understand that emotional healing isn't simply about gaining understanding or trying harder. Our relationships, life experiences, nervous systems, and the environments from which we come all shape how we move through the world. I have come to better understand the lasting impact of trauma and the incredible resilience people carry. That understanding is what led me to create this space.

Choosing the name Sage Room is my way of honoring those beginnings.

To me, Sage Room represents a place where people can pause, experience felt safety, and begin making sense of their experiences with curiosity and compassion. It's a reminder that healing doesn't happen because we have all the answers. It happens when we have the safety and support to explore our stories, understand our patterns, and move toward growth at our own pace.

My hope is that Sage Room Therapy offers that same kind of space for you.
